The Astral Plane
Stakes / setup
If we don't find out more, we will not be in a position to help, or survive. The gods are beaten, we don't know why.
Get There
As soon as the mind clicks, it feels like the world collapses in on you. You are pressed further and further, pressure building, until your view warps in on itself, inverting. Your eyes only see searing white pain... until it reverses, and the world begins reforming fractally. You are in the astral plane.
Kava guides everyone to a safe haven, a gigantic hand with a city sprouted upon the top, floating. A river of bright neon blood runs through the town, seemingly giving it life. It pours like mercury, some of it passing you in the air.
Meet The Enemy
However, dotted in the vast ocean of silky colorful space, are holes. Make a WITS check.
One by one, Kava, Sneedle, and Iggwilv go insane.
Fail: Get sucked in, entranced. Succeed: Act before...
Out of the hole, a large soft, jelly like create begins to ooze. As it squeezes through, it grows, and grows, beginning to sprout tentacles. It is completely transluscent, except for faint patterns of streaking light inside of it, flashing. It is giant, larger than the broodmother.
It arrives, any power, any connection you had to your followers, the powers of godhood, vanish.
4 x tentacles per turn. HARD WITS to avoid. After the first round, it begins to signal.
1d4:
- Mind control - act against allies
- Teleport back to reality
- Tightened grip. Absorbed next round (4d6 damage per turn)
- Blind. Psychic influence.
Skill checks
3 holes. It will begin to ping like sonar. While the jelly attacks, other tears will begin to pour with Jellies. They can be closed mentally, with a WITS check. Star will attempt to close one per round (hard wits +5).
The jelly will leave behind flesh that warps, pulses, inverts on itself. Even being near it leaves a corrosive feeling.
Sneedle says that he has never seen anything come out of them. Kava too.
Skill checks
We need to study, lets move to safety. Kava will try to take them to the god hand, teach them the re-incarnation powers from the books, with the help of Sneedle. Sneedle explains that you must read the books, and change your mental state to what is aligned with the text. Imagine, project your power, and your will is made manifest.
Kava will say its best not to stay here too long, they best return back soon. I will guide you. I need to find out what my father was after.
Escalation
As they return from the astral plane, they return not to the normal realm, but deaths realm.
Renaxis stands upon the cliff edge. Death, behind him, ever so rhythmically sorting the souls.
"I am proud of your progress. It has been some time since we talked."
- He made an agreement with Death, to allow their apotheosis if they could prove they are powerful enough (killing the 3 death-dodgers).
- He discovered the plight of the gods, he needed a way out. He needed to save reality.
- The gods are dying. He wanted others as he grew too weak in his captured, aged state, to do it by himself. He would rather be a shepherd, remembered as the saint who led his people to salvation, freedom.
- We are the last hope that remains for this world. No one else has spent the thousands of years that I have to make this happen. We are NOT to throw it away.
- If you can prove yourselves, the power lies within you to usurp the gods, fight off, guard this realm.
- If he is angered, he will paralyze them with magic.
He reminds them, they have only proven themselves after taking out the last two.
Resolution
He calls upon each of them to re-incarnate their first soul. Picked up by Death, he brings them into a mist. For the first time, your body dissapears, and a hand brings you a old soul. https://questingblog.com/d100-npc-character-traits/
